Nancy A. Fuhrmeister, née Stefchak, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 7, 1942, Nancy will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by those whose lives were brightened by her presence.
Nancy was born and raised in South Philadelphia and moved to Juniata when she married and became a member of Holy Innocents Church, but was always a 'South Philly Girl' at heart. She attended St. Mary Magdalene School and South Philadelphia High School. Nancy was a spunky, tough, incredibly loving and generous person. She loved cooking gravy, casinos, bingo at the Senior Club, game shows, and playing the lottery. She worked at the Ashburn Country Club as a waitress. But mostly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren well into her reirement years.
At the heart of Nancy’s life was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne McGrath (Fuhrmeister), and her son-in-law, Jeff McGrath. She leaves behind her granddaughter, Julina Lugo (Taurino), and her husband Osvaldo Lugo III, as well as her grandson, Nolan Matthew McGrath. Nancy had the joy of seeing a new generation begin with her great-grandson, Osvaldo Lugo IV. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Carmina Stefchak and nephew John Stefchak. Their lives stand as part of her lasting legacy, and her memory will remain a cherished presence in their hearts.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Metro and Mary (Pino) Stefchak, and by her brother, John Stefchak. She now rests in the company of those who went before her, held in everlasting peace.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, September 21, 2026, beginning at 9 AM at Holy Innocents Church, 1337 E. Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19124. Her Funeral Mass begins at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery on Ramona and Adams Avenue.
Nancy will be remembered for the love she gave, the family she treasured, and the quiet but enduring mark she left on those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
